Isn't it about time we had a Newhaven bypass?
Recently, I was caught up for more than an hour in the traffic snarl-up the Newhaven bridge causes when it opens.
I have to cross the bridge at least twice each day and frequently get caught in the chaos.
It wouldn't be so bad if the bridge stayed down in rush hour. I understand it is governed by the tides and I have been told you can expect it to go up at least one hour either side of high tide.
If this is the case, why can't the one or two boats wait until after the busy periods before they pass through, rather than cause so many people such inconvenience?
I've tried to avoid the times given by the clock displayed on the bridge itself. However, they are often incorrect - or an extra boat is slipped in unexpectedly.
