A 71-year-old man and his wife were seriously injured in a two-car smash near Haywards Heath.
The accident happened on the B2116 at Albourne yesterday lunchtime.
A Mercedes estate car driven by a German man was in collision with the elderly couple's Citroen 2CV car.
The occupants of the Citroen were both taken to the Princess Royal Hospital at Haywards Heath.
None of those involved have been named by Sussex Police, who operate a data protection policy.
