Lewes climbed to third place in National League division one after a 3-2 victory over Brooklands on Sunday.

With three games remaining, Lewes remain two points behind Chelmsford, who are currently in the play-off position.

This Sunday, Lewes visit Doncaster, who have play-off ambitions of their own. The Sussex side finish their campaign against Barford Tigers at home and Beeston away.

Chelmsford still have to play Brooklands this weekend, then Doncaster at home before finishing away Barford.

Lewes manager Peter Boyse said: "We are still in there. We have to rely on others losing but as long as we keep winning we can't ask for more than that."

He added: "Chelmsford have got to go to Brooklands this weekend which they won't find easy. Brooklands are quite a good side, especially at home."

Lewes were good value for their 3-2 victory over Brooklands on Sunday and were more in control than the scoreline suggests.

It took the hosts 29 minutes to break the deadlock when Phil Walker finished off a switched short corner.

A minute later Walker was involved at the other end, clearing the ball off his own line in what proved to be a turning point.

Seven minutes into the second half Nick van Tromp netted his first National League goal to put Lewes further ahead. A minute later Dave Dowdall pulled a goal back with a penalty stroke.

Lewes restored their two-goal advantage when Jeremy Boyse converted their third short corner of the match midway through the half.

Steve Smith grabbed a second consolation for Brooklands in the closing stages but Lewes were worthy winners.

For the closing stages of the season Lewes are likely to be without Danny Poulsen (broken thumb) plus van Tromp and Carl Wright, who have both departed on foreign trips.

East Grinstead will be relegated this weekend if they lose to fellow strugglers Indian Gymkhana at Saint Hill.

Following Sunday's 5-1 defeat at second placed Chelmsford, Grinstead remain seven points adrift at the bottom with three games to play. Grinstead had the better of the opening period and took the lead when Dominic Male tapped the ball home following a goalmouth scramble.

Chelmsford drew level seven minutes later but Grinstead had further chances and were unlucky to trail 2-1 at the interval, conceding a short corner goal just before the break.

In the second half Male was denied by a superb save and Chelmsford took control from that point on.

They scored three further goals and forced several good saves from Giles Dakin.
