If you like the idea of wild animals without the pong and the poo, then a digital wildlife experience is probably the best sort to have.

This title from GSP allows users to learn where various animals live, what they like to eat and what threatens their existence. As a learning tool this software is absolutely excellent. Lots of graphics and plenty of great information.

It delivers user-friendly data in bite-sized chunks - which is far better than the user becoming a bite-sized chunk while doing their own field research.

I really like the way Let's Discover Wild Animals uses games to help the wildlife learning process. Word searches, tick-tack-toe and jigsaw puzzles offer a varied repertoire of cunning ways to make information stick.

There is even a "close up" section that lets a user snuggle up with their chosen ferocious beast to learn all about it.

A discovery tour takes the user to different continents and lets them explore.

Animals from the continent are described in great detail with colour videos and fabulous photography to illustrate the various breeds.

The downside is a rather clunky and dated-looking user interface but, in its defence, I would add the interface works very well indeed and the material is first-rate.

With a price tag of just over a tenner, this title offers great value for money and hours of peace and quiet for parents of children, aged eight and over.
