A power cut left 2,000 homes without electricity in Goring last night.
Some households had to wait two hours for supplies to be restored after the blackout around 6.30pm.
The power cut affected streets in the Goring area including the Quadrant, the Strand and Frobisher Way.
According to a spokesman for power firm Seeboard, at least 1,000 houses were hooked up again within an hour and all had been reconnected by 8.23pm.
He said: "It was caused by an underground cable fault. We will be carrying out tests throughout the day to find the exact cause of the fault.
Winnie Dawkins, 75, of Nelson Road, had just made a cup of tea when her home was plunged into darkness.
She said: "I was worried I might freeze, because I am a pensioner and I do feel the cold. Once the heating goes off, it's icy in here."
Seeboard has apologised to customers.
