Woody Woodpecker Racing is an excellent bit of escapism for children aged five to 85.

Choose from a stock car, a race kart, an all-terrain vehicle or a jalopy and hit the tracks to pit your driving skills against some of your favourite cartoon characters.

Each character has its own strengths and weaknesses which remain constant, no matter what vehicle you choose, and there are three surprise characters to 'unlock' as you play through levels.

Easy to get a grip on for Ziyo, my five-year-old, and even fairly simple for me, Woody Racing soon becomes addictive.

For the less compet-itive, it is possible to choose the option of racing solo with the challenge of avoiding cliff faces, walls and bridges.

There is nothing scary. Even three to four-year-olds would get some pleasure from it as the concept is easy to pick up. So go on, take a few risks and challenge Wally Walrus, Winnie Wood-pecker or Knothead to race. Beware, though, if you run out of hot dogs you are out of the game.
