Title-chasing Pagham went top on goal difference but dropped two points as they were held to a 3-3 draw by Lancing.

Pagham manager Richie Reynolds felt his side created enough chances to win ten games against the strugglers, but they trailed 3-2 with ten minutes remaining and were indebted to a Tony Stephens equaliser for the point.

Reynolds said: "We must have missed 15 openings in the game and we were hit on the break."

Lancing manager Andy Gander admitted his side would have settled for a point before the match as they chalked up their seventh draw in eight games.

He said: "We have mixed emotions as we led 3-2 with just minutes to go, it's a little disappointing not to have taken all three points. It is pleasing though as Pagham gave us the run-around earlier in the season."

Simon Chapman fired Lancing ahead, but goals by Lee Stevens and John Oliver put Pagham ahead at the break. A Danny Griffin double in the second half put Lancing on course for an unlikely win until Stephens restored parity.

Reynolds was not surprised to hear the Hillians had beaten Selsey but said: "It's not even worth talking about the title at the moment. We have only played 19 league games and we are only halfway through."

In division two, Hailsham closed the gap on leaders Worthing United to a point after a comfortable 4-1 win at Oakwood.

Leading scorer Duncan Jones grabbed his 14th goal of the season to round off victory for Hailsham. Also on target were Ross Southwood, Damian Smith and Scott French. The home side replied with an own goal.

Hailsham boss Mark Leaney said: "We played very well on a heavy pitch. We were fortunate to get the game played but we were very comfortable in the second half and I don't think many teams will go there and get this sort of result."

Neil Roberts took his goals tally to an amazing 15 in the last six games with a hat-trick as Mile Oak overcame Westfield 5-1. Mark Curram and Dale Brunton, with a penalty, were also on target, while Kevin Rose netted for Westfield.

James Mandry and Alex Stay each scored in the first five minutes to put Oving 2-0 ahead against Storrington. The visitors hit back with strikes from Gavin Pritchard and Paul Trower but a second goal from Stay midway through the second half sealed a 3-2 success for Oving.

All other matches were postponed.
