Home improvement enthusiasts Tony and Paula Worrell pulled an old piece of newspaper out of their wall - and discovered a report of their own wedding.

The couple moved into a semi-detached house in Carden Hill, Brighton, on May 26 last year and began their DIY immediately.

As they worked on the porch of their new home, Paula, 32, spotted the piece of newspaper stuffed into a gap.

She said: "I said to Tony, 'Let's see when this porch was built' and pulled the newspaper out. There was a photograph on it and when I looked at it, it was us on our wedding day. We just couldn't believe it. It was spooky.

"When I showed Tony he had to sit down. It's almost like we've been living here since we were married. Perhaps we were meant to live here."

The stunned couple telephoned family and friends immediately to tell them of the bizarre coincidence.

Paula, who works part-time in a call centre, said: "They couldn't believe it either, it's weird."

The piece of newspaper, dated January 9 1988, was from the Brighton and Hove Leader and reported the couple's wedding on November 14 1987 at St Mary Magdalene Church, Coldean.

The Worrells had been childhood sweethearts and met when 15-year-old Paula bumped into Tony, a year older while he was working on a neighbour's car. They began dating and finally tied the knot when Paula was 19.

Paula said: "Tony's got a moustache in the photo, he hasn't got that anymore. I think we'll frame it. We even kept a clipping of this same report when we got married."

The couple both lived in Coldean and went to Coldean Infants and Junior Schools before Tony, now 33 and a builder, went on to the boys' school Patcham Fawcett and Paula went to Margaret Hardy.

They lived in Hove before returning to Coldean and eventually buying the larger home in Carden Hill following the arrival of their two sons, Louis, six, and Jai, 19 months.

Paula added: "What's more strange is that we called Jai after a character from Tarzan and when he was born Tony was working on another house and pulled a Tarzan card out of a wall."
