With regard to the many letters asking for the return of policemen on foot, should we not question whether that is still the answer to crime in the modern day?
I am not connected with the police but, from what I can see, the public co-operation with the police is not the same as it was many years ago.
Crime has modernised itself and so must police methods.
Would the same people who wish to see police walking the streets also wish to see the return of the lamplighter in preference to automatic switches?
