Pot Black A got the second half of the Brighton League season off to a great start with a shock win over high-riding 147 A.

Dave Bonwick, J. Newnham and S. Craig claimed the victory in matches played on January 8. Michael West and Ben Evans won for 147.

Leaders 147 B moved five points clear after mauling Moulsecoomb 5-0 through Simon Dent, Nick Chapiewski, Stuart Dunseith, Pat Collins and Colin Slattery.

NARC A went third after a full house against Hove Legion A via Anthony Flynn, Phil Ogle, Tony Power, Dave Page and Ian Cornford.

Rottingdean took all five from St Anne's A through Dave and Steve Burchett, who made a 38, J. Baker, Dave Elliott and D. Spate to go joint top of Division Two.

Already there were Pot Black C who beat 147 C via Dan Penalver, Nye, Knight and Dykes.

Hove Deep Sea Anglers reduced Pot Black's D lead in Division Three as they beat St Matthias B 4-1 with wins from Martin Hall, John Hall, Stuart Swanton and Tony Mulhern.

Annunciation C joined Champion House A in joint third after beating them 3-2 with Michael Palmer, Brian Royall and Jack Hull scoring. John Murray and Gary Burton replied for House.

Positions were maintained at the top of Division Four with Brighton Sports E winning against Sports F through Anthony Potter, John Maskell and Dan Brooks. Tony Brindley and Dave Metcalfe replied.

Brighton Referees remained four points behind with Ernie Bysh, Mick Hammond and Rodney Morgan winning against Fire Brigade.

In Division Five, Portslade Sports beat Brighton and Hove Golf 3-2 thanks to Daniel Sterling, Grant Branson and Oliver Stuart, while Dyke Golf triumphed 4-1 against Champion House C via Richard Arnold, Keith Osbourne, Richard Baker and Andrew Wood.

Lloyds TSB gained a similar victory away to Aldrington with Rob Evans, Mark Thomas, Tim Shutt and Gary Poulter winning.

Marquess of Exeter won 5-0 away to Champion House B through Micky Pert, Dave Hoare, Phil Bish, Darren Welfare and Kenny Wenham to lead Division Six. They found themselves with an eight point lead after Brighton Sports H had surprised their own G team with wins by Nick Mepham, Mark Woods and Ali Bedran.

Hove Conservative C beat Hove Deep Sea Anglers B 4-1 via Peter Rawlington, Tony Dade, Tony Woodward and Ken Addecott.

New Central went joint top of the Worthing League Division A after beating Lancing Empire B 4-1 thanks to Stuart Moreland, Paul Wensley, John Reynolds and Ian Cornford. Bob Jay scored the Lancing consolation.

The other joint top side are Lancing Empire A who lost at home to Durrington Social A 3-2 despite wins from Dave Hughes and Martin Fitzpatrick. Durrington winners were Peter Morley, Tim Spruhan and Martin Williams. Colin Nicholson hit a 36 but was beaten by Hughes.

In Division B Southwick went top after beating Goring A 3-2 thanks Mick Roberts, Eric Robb and Brendan Ward, with Mick Greening and Tony Lane replying.

Shoreham beat fourth placed Storrington A 5-0 through Colin Wakefield, Steve Anderer, Cliff Newnham, Dave Hatcher and Richard Alcott.

New Central B suffered their first defeat as they lost 4-1 to Southwick B, whose winners were Tom Trowers, Alan Ward, Peter Metcalf and Les Simmonds.

Durrington WMC cut the lead at the top of Division C after beating Tennis C 3-2 with wins by Adam Williams, who notched a break of 43, Gavin Horne and Paul Lynes. Jim Smith and Peter Geall replied.

Division D leaders Shoreham C beat Lancing Legion D 4-1 through Dennis Kenward, Alan Davison, Steve Raven and Richard Livick.

Second placed Shoreham B defeated Durrington Social C 4-1 through Andy Stainsby, John Liddell, Steve Parley and Harold Dunstall, while third placed SmithKline Beecham A edged out Broadwater A 3-2 thanks to Roy Harden, Graham Kingston and Paul Stones.

Top of the Veterans League are Lancing Empire A who beat Durrington Social B 2-1 through Dave Alderton and Ron Scriven.

Hailsham Memorial Institute lead Lewes League Division One after beating Q-Ball A through Martin Holmes, Ian Davis, Neil Hoad (38 break) and Wayne Hill.

The Q-Ball winner was Newhaven's Matthew Barnes, who knocked in a 30.

Newhaven Con A edged out Lewes WMC with their winners being Sean Payne, Simon Easton and Lou Marshall. Ian Fitzgerald and Cecil Treagus replied.

In Division Two, Q-Ball B increased their lead to six points after Ashley Barton, Michael Chaplin and Daniel Evans helped them to victory over Barcombe, whose winners were Tony Deacon and Peter Stewart.

Newhaven Con B beat Barcombe B 4-1 via Dave Fuller, Martin Stockman and Dan Harris with Matt Baker gaining a walkover.
