Ben Andrews is hoping a reunion with former Albion boss Jeff Wood can put his career back on course.

The ex-Seagulls defender is likely to sign for St Albans City, where Wood is coach, after being transfer-listed by Worthing. He will be teaming up with another familiar face as Danny Davis also tries his luck with the Ryman Premier side.

Davis was axed by Albion and has spent the last few weeks with Lewes.

Andrews, 20, is currently based in Kingston where he works as floor manager at a clothes shop, and admits travelling back to the south coast three times a week has affected his performances.

He said: "When there is no traffic it takes me an hour to get to Worthing but it can be two-and-a-half hours when I leave after work to go training.

"It got to the point where it was not doing me or the team any good.

"Sometimes I would not train during the week but then go straight into the side on Saturday. I have been talking to my agent and hopefully I will get something sorted out with St Albans."

Boss Sammy Donnelly was delighted to secure the Derby-born defender's services when he was released by Micky Adams early in the season.

Rebels fans never saw the best of him and he has been relegated to the bench for some recent matches.

He admitted: "It was different to what I had been used to. I went into it with my coinfidence low after Brighton and I found the football a lot faster. You don't get so much time on the ball at that level and we struggled to settle down as a team.

"Hopefully stepping up a division to St Albans will do me good. It's only just up the M25 and I will really go for it. Andrews' departure may be offset by the return to fitness of former Albion prospect Neil Winter, who made his debut as a midweek substitute against Northwood.

Donnelly said: "I was pleased with how he played. He did more in the ten minutes I gave him than some players did in 90." A medial ligament injury had sidelined him all season.
