An elderly woman died after she was hit by a van while crossing a road.
The crash happened on the A283 in Storrington opposite the recreation ground at 6pm on Friday.
The local male driver was being questioned about the crash on Saturday. No arrests were made.
Police are appealing for witnesses, particularly the driver of a white delivery van travelling towards Storrington.
