The 21st Sussex PGU Overseas Pro-am attracted a record 28 teams and produced a tie for first place among the professionals Nick Scott and Glenn Ralph.

They both carded four under par.

Each were able to discard their worst round and, in consequence, were placed on a 54-hole total. The first two rounds in Portugal were played at par-72 Quinta do Lago and the last two over the Old Course at Vilamoura where par is 73. The joint winners each received a cheque for £500.

The team prize went to the Tilgate Forest amateurs of father and son Glen and Bob Mason with Martin Copperwheat and led by assistant Lea Cooper.

Glen Mason is the steward at Tilgate and, until recently, Lea was an assistant there. Now he has joined Calum Callan at Cottesmore.

The winners won with six strokes to spare on an incredible 48 below par after making up ground on the second day from eventual runners-up The Nevill.

Never much out of the picture in SPGU events, The Nevill, led by pro Paul Huggett with Gary Coldwell, Wally Ball and Norbert Read, could not be disappointed with a final 42 under par.

Tim Spence's ESN team of Hilary Crowe, Mandy Ludlow and husband Haydon were third on 38 under.

RESULTS: pro 54 holes: Nick Scott (West Sussex), Glenn Ralph (Camberley Heath) -4; Mark Root (Effingham Park) -3; Tim Spence (ESN); Jason Partridge (Piltdown); David Mills (Seaford) -2.
