Commuters are being urged by rail company Connex to claim compensation for the recent disruption to services.

Travellers who hold monthly and longer period season tickets are being urged to claim the cash, which could be up to £100 each, for the disruption caused by the speed restrictions imposed on the rail network by Railtrack and the delays caused by the recent bad weather.

The speed restrictions were imposed by Railtrack following the Hatfield rail crash in October in which four people died.

Connex has got teams working flat out to pay claims as quickly as possible and so far, more than 50,000 people have claimed the compensation they are entitled to but the company says there are thousands more people who are entitled to make a claim but have not yet done so.

Connex say if people make their claims as soon as possible they could receive the money before Christmas.

The final date for receipt of compensation claims is Wednesday January 31.

Olivier Brousse, Connex managing director, said: "We are very pleased that so many of our customers have submitted their claims so far, but we are still waiting for a further 100,000 people."

Monthly and longer period season ticket holders can get a compensation claim form from any staffed Connex station or you can download a form from the Connex website.

Those who buy daily and weekly tickets can claim compensation in the usual way by obtaining a form from stations under the Connex Customer Charter arrangement.

The periods the company is offering compensation for are between Monday October 23 and Friday November 10.
