Sandra Scott hates the thud of post arriving on her doormat at this time of year.

Whether it's fishing tackle, stockings or Christmas cards, Mrs Scott is inundated with other people's parcels darkening her doorstep.

Roderick Avenue, Peacehaven, may sound an innocent enough address, but there are two streets with the same name listed on the Peacehaven map and they are just a short distance from each other.

To make matters worse, one is divided into two sections and is listed in the Ordnance Survey map of East Sussex as two separate roads.

A spokesman for Peacehaven Town Council added: "There are two Sutton Avenues as well."

Mrs Scott says she spends her days re-addressing post and sending it to the other Roderick Avenue, only to find it finds its way back onto her doormat - even though some of the post codes are different.

This week Sandra, 54, has received a parcel of jumpers for a lady she believes may live in the other Roderick Avenue.

She said: "I've had fishing tackle, stockings, furniture, bank statements and probably 200-300 letters delivered to me, but it was the stockings which got me into trouble."

Sandra received a package of stockings which she had not ordered and popped them back into the post, saying they were not hers.

Several weeks later she received demands for payment with a final letter threatening legal action.

She said: "I told them to take me to court as I didn't have them and I had had enough."

Mrs Scott says Christmas is even worse - she is inundated with other people's Christmas cards with no return address.

She said: "The post office keep saying they'll sort it out. Perhaps they should give us a new address with north and south on it. I have premium bonds, but I've never won so you never know, perhaps that went to another address. Who knows how much of my mail has gone astray?"

A Royal Mail spokesman said he was aware there were two sections of Roderick Avenue but there was no duplication of house numbers so post should not be going awry.
