A driver was flown to hospital with serious injuries after his car was involved in a crash at Clapham, near Worthing.
Police said the Toyota, which was travelling south on the A280, crossed into the northbound carriageway before colliding with another vehicle.
The man was cut free by firefighters and flown to Worthing hospital by police helicopter after the crash, at about 2.15pm yesterday.
All the other occupants were also taken to hospital in Worthing, but did not suffer serious injuries.
Sussex Police operates data protection guidelines and has not named any of those involved.
