Albion's boy wonder Bobby Zamora is a better finisher at 19 than Alan Shearer.

The glowing tribute from boss Micky Adams follows another double for his teenage star in Saturday's 2-1 home win over Halifax.

Adams was a team-mate of former England captain Shearer at Southampton.

"I worked with Alan when he was 19," Adams said. "No disrespect to him, but Bobby is a more clinical finisher at that age."

Zamora opened the scoring with a spectacular first-half volley following a mistake by ex-Seagull Chris Wilder.

"It was a fantastic goal from the lad," Wilder said. "I tried to get a clearance in and spooned it up in the air.

"You wouldn't expect any player in our division or the divisions above to whack it from there, but you can see the lad is on fire and he smashed it in the top corner."

A cluster of clubs, including Bolton, were represented by scouts as Zamora raised his tally for the season to 15, nine of them in the last nine games, with a header from a Paul Watson free-kick after the break.

"They can all come down, the more the merrier," Adams declared. "We are not going to sell him. I mustn't say never, but he is under contract for four years.

"If there was an offer the Board and myself think will benefit the club we would obviously have to listen to it, but we are under no pressure to sell anybody."

Albion's fifth Withdean win in succession keeps them three points adrift of Chesterfield, who came from behind to beat Leyton Orient 4-1 at home.

Alan Cork's Cardiff, fifth following victory by the same score at Torquay, visit in the LDV Vans Trophy tomorrow night, then Albion got to Scunthorpe on Saturday in the second round of the FA Cup.
