Train operator Connex has moved to quash reports it missed its deadline to publish a Christmas timetable.

Early reports today suggested Connex - which runs most Sussex trains - was one of three companies across Britain which missed the publication deadline.

But company bosses said copies were available at stations from today.

The deadlines were set following emergency talks between the rail industry and the Government and aimed to ease passengers' festive woes.

Speed restrictions were imposed while engineers checked tracks following the Hatfield rail crash in October, which killed four people.

Passengers have endured weeks of misery, with services cancelled, diverted or delayed.

Railtrack announced on Friday that some of the speed limits could be lifted.

A spokesman said: "Connex has produced timetables for both its franchises. There may be some slight alterations to them as speed restrictions are lifted, but they are available."

The early reports were sparked when The Association of Train Operating Companies said only partial timetables would be available for Connex South Eastern services and London-bound South Central trains.

A spokesman said: "Both these train companies will add train services to their timetables over the next week or so as Railtrack lets them know which lines will be fully up and running.

"The Brighton services are still a bit 'iffy', but as you don't have to book in advance like the long-distance journeys they don't pose such a problem for people planning their Christmas travel arrangements."

Connex said timetables would be available from today and only slight alterations might be made to them.

A spokesman confirmed there would be no trains on Christmas Day but there would be some services on Boxing Day.
