Slow worms, badgers and grass snakes could scupper plans for houses in a seaside town.

Developers want to build six homes on land behind Wartling Close, St Leonards.

But Hastings Council planners will hear on Wednesday that slow worms, grass snakes, mature trees and more than four badger setts could be affected if the plan is approved.

Council officers say although there is a need for housing development in the South East, the natural environment comes first.
