SUPERSUB Lee Steele is on target for his first Albion start following a matchwinning contribution.

Steele broke his duck for the flu-suffering Seagulls in Saturday's 2-1 win at Darlington after replacing the injured Charlie Oatway.

Oatway is suspended for Saturday's home game against Carlisle, so Steele is poised for his long-awaited full debut.

"I came here to be playing all the time and it has been so frustrating," Steele said. "Hopefully I have given the manager something to think about, but the lads have been doing so well there wasn't much I could do. I've just had to be patient."

Steele was thrown on just before half time, when Oatway picked up a thigh strain.

The Liverpudlian converted a cross by fellow sub Paul Brooker after Glenn Naylor cancelled out an early effort by Nathan Jones.

It clinched Albion's eighth win out of ten and closed the gap on leaders Chesterfield to five points.

Steele, signed from Shrewsbury in the summer on a Bosman free transfer, said: "I am absolutely delighted. That goal has been a long time coming. I am just pleased to get my name on the scoresheet.

"They are the ones I like to score, easy poachers efforts. Paul Brooker did all the hard work for me, but I still had to put it in and I am absolutely buzzing now."

Boss Micky Adams said: "I fancied Lee to score. He has looked very good in training and in reserve games.

"He is particularly sharp in the box and deserved his goal. He is working ever so hard and he is slightly frustrated not to be in the team, but he has given me a problem now.

"The result was better than the performance, but if you are going to be successful you can't always play fluent football.

"Three or four players were not feeling the best. Some sort of virus has hit the camp."
