The article on St James's Street becoming a ghetto (Argus, October 15) made my blood boil. As an occasional visitor to Kemp Town I walk from St George's road to Old Steine. The problem areas are by the Fitzherbert Centre in Upper St. James's Street and the toilets at Rock Gardens.

Drug dealing takes place outside pubs, cashpoints, supermarkets and late night stores. People sit in the street, drinking and begging without being moved on by shop owners or the police.

The police have become more like social workers due to priorities set by the Home Office and, because of this, public confidence in them is very low.

Kemp Town has nothing to offer tourists other than a handful of over-priced art galleries and a few shops selling incense, candles and aromatherapy oils.
