Simon Fanshawe should get his facts right. The "vast majority of the council" has not given the station site brief its support simply because it was agreed at Policy and Resources Committee, where only 21 of a total of 78 councillors sit.

I also can't help wondering at the implications of his argument that the food store is the only way of making the development financially viable.

If, because of financial implications for the entire site, a supermarket must be included, what does this imply for the role of the planning committee, which is expected to make its decision only on planning and not financial grounds?
