A Sussex man is among four charged with conspiring to steal a £1.6 million collection of paintings, including work by LS Lowry.

The four were given bail when they appeared in court today.

Richard Westbrook, 30, of Bognor, has been charged with stealing the works, which were being stored in south Northamptonshire, in January.

Frank Delacey, 49, of Bolton, and partially sighted David Ross, 63, from Millom, Cumbria, are accused of conspiring with others between October and February to steal the art collection.

Christopher Whalley, 47, of Queenborough, on the Isle of Sheppey, is accused of joining in the conspiracy.

All four were given unconditional bail until December 15 when they appeared at Northampton Crown Court.
