A man was arrested as police stopped cyclists on Brighton seafront opposite the Labour Party conference.

He was detained after allegedly failing to stop for police yesterday and was due before Brighton and Hove magistrates today.

Police are stopping all types of vehicles including bikes, which were the mode of transport IRA terrorists used in 1994 in Sussex.

A bike stuffed with Semtex exploded and devastated shops in London Road, Bognor, and a second was discovered and defused the same weekend outside the Palace Pier, Brighton.

Police have closed the cycle lane opposite the centre for the duration of the conference.
