A man charged with manslaughter in connection with the road crash death of four friends in Australia will appear in court for a committal hearing tomorrow.

Truck driver Anthony Pitkin is accused of unlawfully killing the four when his truck ploughed into their rented car in Queensland in May last year when the friends were on holiday.

Brothers Ben and Martyn Hebblethwaite, 20 and 22, and friends Peter Standing, 21, and Timothy Skipp, 23, died instantly in the crash.

Peter lived in Amherst Crescent, Hove, Timothy in Grebe Crescent, Horsham, Ben in Clovers End, Horsham and his brother in Five Oaks Road, Slinfold.

Peter's father, David, of Amherst Crescent said: "I think we all just want to see the whole thing resolved and just to have a fair hearing. We want it to move along so we can get on with our lives and put it behind us."

Mr Standing, 50, who plans to go to Australia with his wife Penny in November, will hear the result from their solicitor in Queensland and from the British Consul, Megan Hunt.

Mr Standing has been raising money to build a home for street children in Goiania, Brazil, in memory of his son who worked in South America before his trip to Australia.

The family has now raised about £22,000 towards the project after Peter's sister Jo, 19, collected £2,000 from a sponsored skydive in June.

Jo and four of Peter's friends, Robin Askwith and Helen Bonner from Hove, Tony Maslen and university friend Shelly Keegan, will be setting off to Brazil at the end of next month to build the home, named after Peter.
