Sussex have both Robin Martin-Jenkins and Mark Robinson available for tomorrow's crucial Champ-ionship match against Middlesex at Southgate (11am).

Martin-Jenkins missed last week's drawn game with Nottinghamshire because of a shin injury.

Robinson was excused duty so he could attend the birth of his second child, a 9lb 30z girl called Eleanor, in his home town of Hull.

They are both added to the 11 on duty against Notts for a match fourth-placed Sussex must win if they are to make headway on second division leaders Glamorgan as the promotion race hots up. Will House makes way.

"We have really targeted his one as a game we have to win," said coach Peter Moores.

"They are bottom of table and have been struggling a bit so their confidence might be a bit low."

Just 11 points separate the top six sides in the table and Moores is pleased with his team's form despite draws in their last two games.

"I think we have been steadily improving all the time this season," he added.

"Last season we faded away a bit in the middle and came on strong at the end, but this time we seem to be on an upward trend which is encouraging.

"It's very tight and every game from now on is going to be important, the players are well aware of the need to maintain a consistent level of performance."

Michael Bevan plays his last game before linking-up with the Australian one-day squad for three weeks and will be anxious to sign off on a high note.

He needs 105 runs to become the first batsman to reach 1,000 for the season and he'll also be looking for a fourth successive Championship century, a feat achieved by only two other players in the history of the county.

"I'm sure Bev will want to score a big one before he goes," said Moores.

"He's batting so well and is so focused at the moment that anything is possible."

Middlesex will have Mark Ramprakash available after he was not selected for the third Test which starts next Thursday.

MICHAEL BEVAN has lost the captaincy of his state side New South Wales to former Somerset all-rounder Shane Lee.

NSW finished bottom of the Australian domestic competition last season, but Lee says Bevan harboured no resentment at being dropped as state captain.

"Michael's been spoken to by myself and coach Steve Rixon and (he) hasn't got a problem with it," Lee said.

"He'll be very supportive and he wants to see NSW back at the top of the tree like I do and the rest of the boys do."
