Albion have cooled their interest in former Bournemouth marksman Mark Stein.

The Seagulls have drawn up a wish list of strikers they want to sign and Stein is "not a priority" according to chairman Dick Knight.

Stein has stalled on a move to Swansea. He was at the Vetch Field yesterday for talks with Swans' manager John Hollins.

Sources in Wales expected him to sign a one-year contract, but he is keeping his options open.

Stein's brother and agent, Edwin, told the Argus: "I spoke at length to Mark on Sunday about what he wants to do. I spoke to him about Brighton and he is still very interested.

"I contacted Micky Adams last week. He thought everything had been done and dusted with Swansea, but I told him that wasn't the case.

"He was going to speak to his chairman to find out the state of play and whether the interest is still there."

Adams is currently abroad on holiday. But Knight revealed: "We are involved in pursuing a number of routes as far as strikers are concerned and there are ions in the fire.

"He (Stein) is not a priority."

Mark Walton, Albion's first choice goalkeeper last season, completed his surprise move to Cardiff yesterday after passing a medical.

Keith McPherson, the Seagulls' veteran former Reading defender, is having talks with non-League Slough.

McPherson was released by Adams at the end of last season, with the option of returning for pre-season training on Thursday.
