A double-glazing worker attacked his wife after he found her kissing another man while on a company weekend away, a court was told.

Amir Fayaz attended a company function organised by his firm, Zenith Windows, in a Norwich hotel with his wife Angela, in February.

Chris Youell, prosecuting, told Norwich Magistrates' Court how, in the early hours of the following morning, Fayaz, 45, of Main Drive, Middleton-on-Sea, near Bognor Regis, saw her kissing an assistant manager for the company. He shouted obscenities at her, dumped her on the floor, grabbed her hair and dragged her into a room.

The police were called and he was arrested, but later released.

He went back to their hotel room where he became verbally abusive to his wife. The court he again attacked her, spat at her and was again arrested.

He pleaded guilty to two offences of common assault.

At the time of the offences Fayaz was on a conditional discharge imposed by Chichester magistrates last October for an offence of criminal damage when an argument took place between him and his wife at their home in Harting, West Sussex.

Trevor Beckford, defending, said it had been a stormy marriage and Fayaz's wife had a history of infidelity. Mr Beckford said Fayaz had wanted to be on his best behaviour and to create a good impression at the function. However they had both consumed a lot of alcohol. Mr Beckford said his client's actions were "emotionally charged".

Fayaz said that despite everything he still loved his wife and they both hoped to be reunited.

Fayaz was placed on probation for eight months for the charges of common assault and fined £75 for the breach of the conditional discharge. He was ordered to pay £60 prosecution costs.
