Albion manager Micky Adams refuses to be held to ransom in his striker search.

Adams wants to complete his summer squad strengthening by signing at least one new forward.

But he said: "I am finding at the moment that average players are asking a fortune and holding clubs to ransom. I am not going to take that route."

The Argus revealed in yesterday's late editions that Albion are still in the hunt for former Bournemouth marksman Mark Stein.

His brother and agent, Edwin, contacted Adams yesterday to assure him Stein is not already on his way to Swansea. Adams must now decide whether to renew his interest in the prolific 34-year-old.

Meanwhile, Adams will not be rekindling his interest in disgraced ex-Carlisle striker Stephen Halliday.

His goals helped rescue Carlisle from relegation last season, but he was axed after he was spotted in a Brighton nightclub the night before the Cumbrians' crucial clash against Albion at Withdean on the final day of the season.

The Seagulls are among several clubs linked with Halliday, who failed to agree personal terms with Oxford.

Adams confirmed: "I made an enquiry about him, but that was very early in the close season.

"I thought he was signing for Oxford. That isn't the case, but I've got other plans now."

Adams arrived back from a fact-finding mission to Southern Ireland yesterday, which has led to some changes in the itinerary for next month's pre-season tour.

The last two matches have been swapped. Albion now play Galway on July 19 at Glenanian, home of Galway rugby club, and Athlone on July 21.

The opening game is still against Longford on July 17, but there could be a late switch of venue because of building works.
