The furore after Saturday's Tyson debacle was predictable, but ignore the mass hysteria and look at the bigger picture.

The whole promotion was open to question even before the bell rang.

Frank Warren and his boxing spin doctors had been telling all and sundry that 40,000 tickets had sold in minutes and that real life Rocky Balboa, Lou Savarese, was a credible opponent.

For those of you who didn't realise, this pugilistic bravado was designed for nothing more than selling the all-important pay-per-view package.

As it turned out only 15,000 tickets were sold, a Warren 'disciple' claimed the rain kept people away. Ask yourself this - if the cheapest ticket was £30, would the rain make 25,000 'write off' their ticket money and stay at home?

But the main issue is Mike Tyson. Sky Sports had the predictable vox pops from fight fans moaning about being ripped off.

To the interviewer's credit, he gave the microphone to a Tyson fan from Belfast, who put the whole night into perspective.

He stated that Tyson had put in an explosive performance and people pay to see Tyson knock the other guy out. It's not his fault his opponent wasn't up to it.

As for his behaviour after the fight, what do people expect?

He's not going to get in the ring and start behaving like Prince William, but there is no denying, to put it mildly, he has a troubled mind.

But the mass indignation from the public doesn't really wash, the majority of the people who want him banned contain a large number of baying fans who previously wanted him to behave like an animal.

They can't have it both ways. It's their adulation and pressure that has got Tyson into this situation.

His attempts to continue the fight after it had been finished and his vitriolic rantings about ripping out Lewis's heart and eating his children are not the actions of a level headed man.

The sport has created this 'monster' and now all the promoters, media and hangers-on have had their fill they will all disappear. The proposed fight with Lewis is light years away, because for Tyson, if things don't drastically change he will fighting for his sanity if not his life.
