Burger King withdrew a CD-Rom giveaway last week after it was revealed the disc contained the addresses of 2,000 pornographic websites.

Outlets in Sussex were included in a promotion, which saw more than one million copies of the CD handed out with children's meals.

The pornographic site list was included so parents could check which websites to block using Net Nanny software. But once it was installed, the addresses could be accessed with a couple of mouse clicks.

Sites featured contained hardcore pornography and sex-related internet chat rooms.

Some store managers were left in the dark about the affair.

Sam Hassani, general manager of Burger King in North Street, Brighton, said: "The first I knew about it was when I read about it.

"It was the same for most of our management."

John Cheshire, general manager of the Goldstone Retail Park branch in Hove, confirmed his store took part in the promotion.

Burger King also has branches in Eastbourne, Crawley, Horsham and Bognor Regis - all of which gave away the CD.

The restaurant chain said in a statement: "After a small number of customer concerns, Burger King has decided to withdraw the promotion."

It said the majority of customers had responded positively after 20,000 of them had installed the software.
