Mrs Vergano of Hove (Opinion, June, 22) is right. We do need decent sports facilities in Hove - and the proposals for the King Alfred will deliver just that.
While a deal has not yet been finalised, Brighton and Hove Council wants developers Citygrove to give Hove a new, public, council-run sports centre worth about £6 million.
This would be vastly superior to the crumbling, hopelessly underused one we have now. The King Alfred swimming pool would get a refurbishment worth around £1 million.
We are spending hundreds of thousands of pounds on children's play facilities, spread out in the neighbourhoods so children can play close to home. Leisure centres also serve wide areas.
The restaurants, cinemas and casino would all be built with the developer's rather than taxpayers' money.
