Albion goalkeeper Mark Ormerod believes he has been dealt a good hand after joining Conference club Woking on a two-year deal yesterday.

The 24-year-old goalkeeper who was given a free transfer by the Seagulls, feels the move to The Cards will help him get back into League football.

Ormerod, reserve to Mark Walton for much of the season, said: "I didn't fancy being second choice again. I'd rather play in the first team at Woking than sit on a bench at Brighton next season."

He believes he didn't get a fair crack of the whip at Albion last season, but added: "I'm not out to prove a point to Albion, I'm out to prove a point to myself, that I am good enough to play regular league football.

"Woking gave me a good offer and can give me the games and platform to get back in the League. They are a big Conference club and only one division down from Division Three anyway. I'm relieved it's all sorted out."

Ormerod played 95 times for the first team in his eight years at the club.

He said: "I had some great times at Brighton. They were nice to me and I've no regrets. I gained experience by playing for them during the lowest point in their history. But the time was right to move on."

Ormerod wishes the Seagulls well and tips them for promotion He said: "I believe they will be good enough to go up next season."

Ormerod takes exams this summer to qualify as a financial advisor, giving him another string to his bow.

Woking manager Colin Lippiatt is delighted with the deal.

He said: "Mark was a key target, the last piece in my jigsaw for next season. He is only 24 and has so much experience already, I'm sure he will do a good job for us."
