Horsham open their British Table Tennis League premier division programme on September 3.

That is the only certainty following the turmoil created by rebel clubs at the annual meeting in Sheffield.

Fixtures for all clubs, apart from those in the premier, will be played over four weekends rather than 14 Sundays, which has led to problems finding venues for both Saturday and Sunday.

Horsham secretary Derek Bunday said: "We have had a club meeting and agreed to enter three teams as before.

"But at this time we have almost no idea where the new weekend venues will be. There is also a problem with organisers. I voted against the move to four weekends so I do not feel I can volunteer as an organiser."

There is, however, some good news from North Middlesex. The Barnet Table Tennis centre have offered their premises for one weekend and the services of an organiser.

Bunday added: "We are now facing just seven home games at Broadbridge Heath in the premier division. The rest of the action will effectively be away from home, although if we only have to travel as far as Barnet then we shall be able to switch players between the Saturday and Sunday matches."

British League committee chairman Keith Pontings says the league will have nothing to do with the organisation of the weekend fixtures.

Doreen Nightingale and Derek Baseley, from Eastbourne, have qualified as international umpires, the highest grade possible. The only other two international umpires in Sussex are Colin Hyland (Hastings) and Ron Eglin (Chichester).
