Four clubs from the second division have won through to the quarter-finals of the Gray Nicholls Sussex Cup.
The latest of the minnows to win through were Stirlands who beat Haywards Heath at Birdham to win by 105 runs. Stirlands made a useful 223-7 with Australian Peter Cross hitting 66 and Sean Heather 36 while Anthony Brewster cracked 31 not out.
In reply, Haywards Heath subsided to 118-9 despite 36 not out from Graham Hart. Nigel Woodruff took 3-10 and Brewster 2-17 to earn Stirlands a crack at Brighton & Hove.
Horsham beat Preston Nomads by 40 runs in 30-over match. Alan Law scored 63 in a Horsham score of 173-8, Chris Bidwell taking 4-15 and Lee Atkins 3-55. Nomads made 133-8 with David Thompson hitting 40 despite an injured back and batting with a runner.
The matches between Hastings and Steyning and Three Bridges and Worthing have been re-arranged for Sunday. The scheduled quarter final between Lewes Priory and East Grinstead was also rained off, this will now be played on the same day as the other quarter-finals on Sunday June 18th.
Revised Quarter-final draw Brighton & Hove v Stirlands, Worthing or Three Bridges v St.James Montefiore, Lewes Priory v East Grinstead, Hastings or Steyning v Horsham.
Second XI semi-finals: Stirlands or Crowborough v Brighton & Hove, Horsham v Eastbourne.
All matches to be played on Sunday June 18th.
