CRAWLEY face the biggest test yet of the progress they have made under coach Steve Pilgrim tomorrow.

Holders Haywards Heath visit Willoughby Fields in the pick of the quarter-final ties in the Sussex Trophy and Pilgrim insists that his side have a chance of ending Heath's long domination of the competition.

And whatever the result, he predicts that both sides will go out to entertain a crowd expected to be around 500.

Crawley have won their last 11 league and cup games and climbed to second place in the London Three South East last weekend after beating Cranbrook, the highest position in the club's history.

"It will be a good test of what we're going to be up against when the leagues are reorganised next year," said Pilgrim who came to Crawley after a career with Wasps and Harlequins.

"I think both teams will throw caution to the wind. Heath will want to come here and put us in our place and we want to see where we stand in Sussex. If it finishes 32-31 to them and it's been a great game of rugby I won't mind too much.

"I hope they give us some respect, but if they get complacent they could be in for a shock."

Both sides should be at full strength.

East Grinstead are hoping some of their walking wounded return for the tough-looking trip to Hove.

Fly half Ray Hennessy (shoulder) and centre Marcus Ayers (knee ligaments) are having treatment this week after missing last Saturday's league defeat against Brighton, while Nick Bridgland will probably continue his return to fitness on the bench.

Former captain Peter Allen, who has been ruled out since Christmas by injury, could return at hooker for Hove.

Second row forwards Steve Dove and Paul Cox return to their old club as Worthing travel to the only Sussex League survivors Bognor.

But tight head Shaun Keith is ruled out through injury and Mark Skrypec is skiing.

Coach Tim McKew won't be there either. Instead he will be at Willoughby Fields running the rule over potential semi-final opponents.

"We bounced back after the Brighton result against Eastbourne in the league last week and we'll be looking forward to continuing where we left off," he said.

"Bognor will undoubtedly play out of their skins, but we're quite confident we can get a positive result."

Another big crowd is expected at Cross-in-Hand where Heathfield tackle local rivals Eastbourne.
