Albion duo Danny Cullip and Charlie Oatway are battling to be named stand-in skipper.

Regular captain Paul Rogers is suspended for Saturday's visit to high-flying Northampton. Manager Micky Adams has confirmed that ex-Brentford pair Cullip and Oatway are the contenders for the honour of leading out the side.

Central defender Cullip has been one of Albion's most consistent performers since signing for £50,000 soon after the start of the season. Rogers has been the only ever-present, but midfield partner Oatway has missed just four matches through suspension following his £15,000 move from Brentford last summer.

Adams has yet to decide which defensive system Cullip will figure in for the trip to the Sixfields Stadium. He switched to a flat back four for last Saturday's home draw against Plymouth, when Darren Carr was ruled out by a calf injury. Carr is also banned for the Northampton game, along with winger Rod Thomas.

"Circumstances more than anything made me go with four at the back against Plymouth, but it worked well," Adams said. "It all depends on what players I have available this Saturday."

David Cameron could be in the starting line-up for the reserves at Sidley tonight in the quarter-finals of the Sussex Senior Cup (7.30pm). Adams has vowed that Cameron will never be picked for the first team again, because he is a "destructive influence" in the dressing room.
