Rail passengers had some good news today after the completion of a £365,000 improvement package at a string of stations was announced.
Travellers in Sussex have suffered from late trains, strike action and possible fare increases.But the completion of work worth a
total of £365,000 at five coastal stations was announced by Railtrack.
At Fishersgate, between Shoreham and Hove, £118,000 has been spent while Lancing Station has seen £96,000 spent on repairs, including and repainting and the relaying of block paving on platform one.
A £59,000 improvement package for Angmering Station, between Littlehampton and Worthing, included re-roofing work to the station building and drainage repairs.
Railtrack carried out work worth £48,000 at Southwick, which included repairs to canopy roof supports with a further £45,000 package for Pevensey Bay.
Connex has pledged a multi-million pound package of improvements to stations around Sussex if it wins an extended South Central franchise. Railtrack Southern director Michael Holden said: "Railtrack is committed to improving standards for the public."
