An elderly man died after collapsing at the wheel of his car which crashed into a tree and rolled over.

The accident happened at 2.30pm yesterday on the A275 at South Chailey, near Lewes. His elderly wife of the Rover driver, who was 80, of Lindfield, near Haywards Heath, suffered minor injuries.

Meanwhile, in Eastbourne, a 28-year-old man was seriously injured after being hit by a car while walking across the road. The victim, of Milton Road, Eastbourne, was hit by a Toyota in Seaside Road at 6.20pm yesterday.

The 51-year-old female driver, of Bexhill, and her 59-year-old female passenger had minor injuries. No one involved in the incidents was named by Sussex Police, who operate data protection guidelines.
