A man has been charged with the murder of Karen Heywood, whose body was found dumped at a West Sussex beauty spot last month.

Jarno Cable, 25, from the South Bersted area of Bognor, was due to appear before Worthing magistrates this morning. Mrs Heywood, 34, was last seen alive on New Year's Day in The Family Tree pub in Bognor.

The divorcee had arrived in the town a few days earlier and booked into a bed and breakfast. Her body was found on January 19 in woodland at Houghton, near Arundel. She had been strangled.

Mrs Heywood, whose family home was in Oxfordshire, had been living in a hostel at Winchester before arriving in Bognor on December 29. Murder squad detectives have been trying to build up a picture of her movements in the town and find people she had met.

The investigation had concentrated on The Family Tree, which is in South Bersted. They also appealed for help in finding the distinctive heavy-rimmed glasses which Mrs Heywood always wore, but which were not found with her body.
