Chris Adams has returned home early from England's tour of South Africa after his young daughter was taken ill.

The Sussex skipper flew into Heathrow yesterday morning and went straight to the Sussex County hospital in Brighton.

His youngest daughter Sophie, who is 18 months old, was admitted on Saturday after being taken ill at home. She was detained overnight before being discharged yesterday.

Adams' early departure meant he missed yesterday's final of the triangular one-day series against South Africa and is also ruled out of the limited over series against Zimbabwe which starts in Bulawayo on Wednesday.

He was dropped from the England side after they lost to Zimbabwe 17 days ago after playing in all five Tests of the winter series and three one-day internationals. Adams and his wife Sam have another daughter, Georgia, who is six years old.
