Mark Campbell-James reckons winning the world title will be a breeze.

The 19-year-old, from Seaford, flies to New Zealand tomorrow for the World Youth Match Racing Championship with his confidence sky-high.

The British junior international, son of 1984 Olympian David, said: "It would be lovely to say I'm a world champion and I really believe that's what I'll be saying in Auckland.

Campbell-James, with crew David Carr and James Ward, finished second in the prestigious Harken International Youth Regatta in Sydney last November.

Campbell-James, the helmsman, said: "Most of the opposition in New Zealand will be the same as we beat in Sydney. To be honest, I don't know how we didn't win that one because we were in good form.

"Also, the conditions should be quite windy, which will suit us. David deals with our mainsail, which is a very physical job, but he is a big, strong lad. I've sailed with James for a while and he's a good bowman and I can steer a bit too."

Campbell-James reckons Carr has helped boost the crew's preparations with his sailing contacts.

He said: "David's dad Rod is the second most important person in the British Olympic Association. Don't get me wrong, we've picked David because he's the best person for the job, but the contact helped us with getting some vital practise."

Campbell-James also has Olympic coach Bill Edgerton helping .

"It's great to be with someone of Bill's experience," said Campbell-James who completed training at Cowes at the weekend.

The crew only intend to have one more training session before the competition starts next week.

Campbell-James said: "A lot of crews will be going out quite a few times, but we'll probably just have one to get used to the boat and conditions.

"It's a system we used in Sydney and it worked so why change it. We've also had a thorough preparation. To win it would be pretty special."

They will be up against 15 other crews, split into two sections of eight with the top two going through to the semi-finals.

Campbell-James, whose younger brother Paul is a junior international, believes victory would be a big step towards emulating his father.

But he added: "To compete at the Olympics is a dream but I wouldn't mind a go at the Admiral's Cup too."
