Albion beat Crawley 2-1 to move into the quarter finals of the Sussex Senior Cup.

Dave Cameron was the match winner as he scored one and made one as a strong reserve side made hard work of beating their Dr Martens League hosts.

Crawley could even have taken the game into extra time as Dean Wordsworth forced Mark Ormerod into a difficult save two minutes from time.

The Seagulls included Rod Thomas, who had been sent off at Mansfield 24 hours earlier, but he struggled to make an impact.

Jamie Campbell also played in a contest which had been abandoned a week earlier due to a frozen pitch.

Albion edged a largely uninspiring first half with Scott Ramsay wasting a glorious chance on 16 minutes when he scuffed a clear chance wide of the far post.

Penalty

The deadlock was broken in the 61st minute when Cameron was brought down by Keith Sharman and Warren Aspinall converted the resulting penalty.

Aspinall was at the heart of all of Albion's attacks and he was withdrawn three minutes later, possibly with Saturday's trip to Hull in mind.

A second goal arrived 17 minutes from time when Ramsay's flick-on released Cameron and he coolly slotted past home keeper Andy Little into the far corner.

Ten minutes from time Crawley reduced the deficit when Ben Andrews brought down Wordsworth, who got up to convert his first goal for the Reds from the spot.

Paul Armstrong almost restored Albion's two-goal lead, but his curling shot came back off the post.

Albion were worthy winners and now visit Sidley United in the last eight.
