A BRIGHTER future has been promised for Lewes Football Club following the club's second takeover in less than five months.

Local businessmen Martin Elliott and Andy Steadman were appointed directors this week and are now hoping to lead the club to better times.

Negotiations are ongoing regarding the terms of the takeover, but Elliott and Steadman are hoping the Rooks can soon start moving in the right direction.

The club has been in turmoil following a string of recent resignations, including chairman Gordon Lucking who had led a four-man takeover in the summer.

None of those four people are directors anymore, but Jimmy Quinn and Billy Nixon, who quit their positions on the board this week, have agreed to stay on to run the team on a temporary basis.

Elliott, who runs Philcox Brothers, and Steadman, of club sponsors Steadman and Sons, tried to take over the club in the summer, but lost out to Lucking.

Elliott said: "As first team sponsors we already had a vested interest and we are pleased to become involved.

"The club has a calmer and more secure future for the rest of the season."

The new directors want to bring more new blood into the club and plan to announce their plans in the next couple of weeks. Tomorrow, the Rooks are away to Southall.
