Thanks, John . . . we think

IT is difficult to know whether John Major's support for our City bid is a good thing or not. For the former Conservative PM also used the opportunity to remind people of the occasionally awkward "marriage" of Brighton and Hove.

When asked by an Argus reporter whether he backed the bid, he replied that was was "quite happy" to do so, adding "it is a very venerable old place, Hove".

Was it just an accidental slip that he forgot to mention Brighton or was Major having a minor moan at those people who sometimes forget - usually accidentally - to mention the "actually" place?

If it was the latter, he was probably on to a surefire winner with his audience at Hove Conservative Association. If not, we can all forgive him and be grateful for his positive interest.

After all, if we're going to win city status, we can do with all the support we can get - whoever it's from!

Battlers both

SALLY Taylor's public admiration for breast cancer victim, Ann Rose, is laudable.

The television newsreader says she felt humbled by Ann's fight against the disease. Yet Sally herself has only just returned to our screens after undergoing a double mastectomy.

The truth is both are very brave women who must be an inspiration to other sufferers and are a shining light to us all.

Hidden talent

YOU'VE got to hand it to Chris Eubank. He dresses in the best tailored suits, drives around town in his enormous truck and wastes no opportunity to let everyone know quite how fond he is of himself.

The nice thing about him is he openly admits to being a show off. The world is a better place for colourful Chris, especially when you know he's got a humble streak hidden under that huge ego.

Either that, or he's taken too many punches!
