AN INJURED woman who plunged from cliffs at Beachy Head spent a night of agony climbing hundreds of feet back to the top.

The woman, who suffered a suspected broken pelvis in the fall, spent hours climbing the

precarious cliff face, near Eastbourne.

She is believed to have fallen last night and was spotted by a walker at 10am today, lying in pain at the cliff edge, 100 yards from the Beachy Head Hotel,.

Paramedics, a Coastguard rescue team and police were called to the scene and the police helicopter was put on standby, although it was not needed.

The woman was taken by ambulance to Eastbourne District General Hospital.

A Coastguard spokesman said: "A walker saw her and we were alerted. Fortunately we had a crew in the area. But it looks as if she got back up on her own."

The woman was conscious when she was found by the walker.

The incident happened at the point where 17-year old German student Ramona Affeldt plunged 600ft to her death in September.

She lost her footing on wet grass as she stood near the edge of the cliff.
