SKIPPER Chris Adams will urge his Sussex players to 'savour the moment' against World Cup favourites South Africa tomorrow.

The sides meet in a warm-up game at Hove and Adams believes it's an occasion for his side to enjoy, regardless of the result.

"We will be working very hard for the right to play our cricket," said Adams, "But whether we win or lose I will tell the guys to savour the moment. Opportunities to play sides like South Africa in this sort of atmosphere don't come along too often so they should enjoy it.

"The ground looks great and there is such a buzz and I'm sure there will be an electric atmosphere on Friday, it's probably the biggest occasion we have had at Hove for some while."

Adams himself will have a particular point to prove after disappointing in two one-day internationals for England against South Africa a year ago.

He made 25 on debut and played in the second match of the series, but Adams has been ignored by the selectors since and didn't even make the initial squad of 35 for the World Cup.

"I did OK, but I didn't set the world alight. I owe it to myself to squeeze another five per cent out and work harder," he added.

"You're always looking to prove yourself and if I did well tomorrow it would be the perfect message to the selectors."

Sussex's overseas player, Michael Di Venuto, also comes face-to-face with the side he made his international debut against in 1997.

The Tasmanian left-hander played seven of his nine one-day internationals against South Africa.

He said: "To see these guys in action will show what top-class one-day cricket is about, they are up there with the best sides in the world.

"They have got quality players all the way down and play exceptionally well as a team, I'm really looking forward to playing them again."
