A DOTING mum maliciously dubbed Myra Hindley after the death of her baby son was praised by a coroner yesterday for the loving care she gave him.

Gossips cruelly likened Christine White, 35, to the evil moors murderess after eight month-old Charlie died in her arms.

But an inquest heard yesterday that the tot died from bronchial pneumonia resulting from brain damage probably sustained while he was being cared for in hospital a month before.

Charlie, born with severe breathing problems and other ailments, stopped breathing at St Richard's Hospital, Chichester, after a tracheotomy tube became blocked with mucus.

Medics successfully revived him, but his condition was such that he was released into the care of his parents where he was expected to die quickly.

Atearful Mrs White, of Story Road, Chichester, vowed after the hearing to sue doctors for negligence for allegedly failing to keep a close watch on her son.

She had broken down as she told how Charlie a month before he died had waved goodbye to her when she left hospital to go home for the night.

She said: "He was sitting on one of the nurses' laps. He was laughing and she was getting him to wave goodbye."

Recording a verdict of accidental death, coroner Roger Stone praised Mrs White and her partner, David Beasley, for the "loving time and care" they had put into looking after their son.

He said he was satisfied the blockage was the cause of the youngster's death but emphasised it was not his role to apportion blame.

Afterwards Mrs White vowed to start legal action against the hospital.

She said: "I am very disappointed, even though the coroner made it known we were not to blame.

"I will be suing the hospital. Charlie was our life. He was doing well and he was a good boy, a fighter."
