BURNSIDE is back! Hove actor Chris Ellison has announced he is returning to Sun Hill for a series of eight special appearances in The Bill.
Chris, who played tough DI Frank Burnside for five years before quitting the show in 1993, said he was delighted to be making a return to the country's number one police drama.
He added: "Frank Burnside is such a great character. I am looking forward to being reunited with my mates at Sun Hill."
Burnside left the show under a cloud, amid suspicions he had turned into a bent copper, although the official explanation was that he had been seconded to special operations.
In his comeback show, to be screened in October, he is discovered by DC Carver and DS Bolton, who are on undercover work of their own.
But Chris is remaining tight-lipped as to whether Burnside is on the level, or up to no good.
Aspokeswoman for the show said: "Everyone is delighted Chris is coming back for these special guest appearances.
"He took a little bit of persuading, but now he's excited about it. I'm sure the fans will be as well."
Chris begins filming in August. He will appear in four one-hour episodes in October, and four more early in 1999.
Chris has starred in shows including Ellington and Birds of a Feather since quitting The Bill, and even tried his hand as a DJ when he presented Southern Counties Radio's breakfast show earlier this year.
Brighton fans of The Bill got a first hand look at how the programme is made when a special two-episode story was filmed in the town.
Stars of the show came to Brighton in March, and scenes were filmed on the seafront, in The Lanes and at the police station.
