I have supported Brighton and Hove Albion on and off since 1967 but I am becoming increasingly worried about its future.

Since the club's move to Withdean, I have purchased a season ticket so I can regularly go to matches without the hassle of obtaining a ticket.

In that time, I have put money in buckets for both Bournemouth and Hull and am delighted to see they both now have new stadiums up to Premiership level.

I am not sure if their councils were involved in providing suitable land and under what conditions they made financial contributions. All I am amazed at is that they have them and are enjoying the benefits so quickly - because we were at the same stage but are still awaiting John Prescott's decision.

I do not necessarily share the optimism of The Argus or Albion chairman Dick Knight as regards Falmer. In fact, I do not believe it is the ideal site. Presumably, if we did get it, we would have to include "Falmer" in the name of the club.

The obvious site is, of course, Waterhall. I understand the council some 20 years ago said there would be no building north of the A27 bypass, as then it was not even built. One has only to look at the University of Sussex and its development and wonder how long before it reaches Crawley.

So the condition didn't apply to that building. One also wonders if areas around Brighton will be used in the forecast that large numbers of houses are still needed in Sussex.

The approaches to Waterhall, the A23, A27 and possibly a railway halt would keep out possible trouble-making away supporters from the city. Perhaps a further exit/entrance from Mill Lane to the area would be helpful.

Local people would be less inconvenienced by fans travelling across the city because they would approach from both sides of the ground.
